Ghana President, Akufo-Addo Elected New ECOWAS Chairman, Vows To Consider Biafra’s Request For Independence

Ghana President, Nana Akufo-Addo, has been elected as the new Chairman of the Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS)

Akufo-Addo was elected the new chairman of the sub-regional bloc at its ongoing 57th Summit in Niamey, Republic of Niger.

During his acceptance Speech, Akufo-Addo pledge to consider all matters relating to insecurity, and ethnic wars plaguing the West African sub-region especially the Biafran question.

According to him, the issue of internal police system must be adopted and if necessary, states clamouring for independence may be considered in the interest of peaceful coexistence and harmony.

He, therefore, call on all parties involved in a round table discussion to find a lasting solution.

The summit is being held at the Mahatma Gandhi International Conference Centre, where leaders will be considering reports form the 44th Ordinary Session of the Mediation and Security Council at the Ministerial Level and the 84th Ordinary Session of the Ecowas Council of Ministers, which preceded the Summit, among others.
