I’ll Fight To See Igbo Man Becomes President In 2023 – Goodluck Jonathan
Former President Goodluck Jonathan has declared support for the emergence of an Igbo person as Nigeria’s president in 2023.
The politician declared that the Igbo nation deserves to produce Nigeria’s next president and also merit the position.
“Some argued that the Igbo have not played politics well to deserve it?. How do they want them to play it? Have they not been participating in all the elections? Do they not have governors elected in the East? Do they not have National Assembly members elected in the East? Is it because they refused to vote for a particular party?” Goodluck declared.
Jonathan noted that such calls “were mere campaign gimmicks“. Adding that those touting such claims do not actually understand how Nigeria got independence and subsequent political development in the country.
“I am now 92. I saw Nigeria in the First Republic and the role the Igbo played. There is no politician better than the Igbo politician. The Sardauna of Sokoto and Premier of Northern Nigeria, Alhaji Ahmadu Bello, played politics together with his Igbo counterparts.”
He maintained that Easterners have played major roles in Nigeria’s development and have qualified persons capable of taking up the mantle of leadership.
