The apex Igbo youth socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, yesterday, challenged the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Muhammadu Adamu, that it would make public the names of persons behind the alleged attack on the Abuja residence of the chairman of Southeast Governors’ Forum and Ebonyi state governor, Engr. David Umahi.
A statement by the president general, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, made available to Orient Daily in Abakaliki, stated that the alleged attack was masterminded by some top Abuja politicians, who ordered yet-to-be-identified policemen to attack Umahi’s residence in Abuja with the intention to plant weapons and ammunitions to indict Umahi.
Isiguzoro explained that the attack was a clear indication of a conspiracy to sponsor terrorist attack on the governor following their ban on the movement of cattle on foot in the region.
According to him, the body would no longer tolerate any further attack on governors from the southeast, even as he reiterated that such plot to stop the actualisation of the Igbo presidency in 2023 was dead on arrival.
The statement reads, “Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide angrily condemn vehemently the political persecution and blackmail hatched by some corrupt politicians and businessmen, who are behind the recent humiliation targeted on the Southeast governors over their recent resolutions to flush out the menace and nefarious activities of herdsmen.
“The recent ban on pastoralists conveying cattle on foot had prompted the recent illegal invasion by unknown policemen on the Abuja residence of South-East Governors’ Forum chairman, and Ebonyi state governor, Engr David Umahi, with evil intent to plant weapons and ammunition to indict the governor and blackmail them to reverse their decision on the recent ban of pastoralists.
“This is a piece of clear evidence that those sponsoring terrorism in the Southeast through the nefarious activities of murderous herdsmen have developed cold feet and had met their waterloo as Ohanaeze youths ensure that the enforcement of the ban starts immediately, and no threat on the governor will reverse the ban on the pastoralists.
“We are fully aware that many intimidation and blackmail plots are lined up for Southeast governors, especially using anti-graft agencies to scuttle the rising profile of Southeast governors ahead of the realisation of Nigeria presidency project of Igbo stock 2023. No weapon can destroy an idea whose time has come, irrespective of the nefarious activities of these political cartels.
“From intelligence report, those behind the Abuja invasion of governor Umahi’s residence are highly placed politicians, who are afraid of the resolutions of the Southeast governors on the ban on herdsmen conveying cattle on foot, and we ask IGP to fish out those that commanded the police officers to illegally invade the house of Ebonyi state governor.
“We also expect the IGP to expose them immediately or Igbo youths will expose them for Nigerians to know the details, as we will no longer tolerate any further intimidation of Southeast governors from any quarter henceforth. The current political persecution of Southeast governors by this faceless political cartel is to forestall 2023 Igbo presidency project and reversal of the ban on herdsmen movement of cattle on foot. Their evil plot is dead on arrival”, he boasted.
