Top 20 Igbo Appointees In Buhari’s Government


Never, statistically, in the history of the country’s democracy even in the military era has any president made lopsided appointment and employment like the present administration and the Igbo has no doubt been the most marginalized .

South East is the only zone missing in the security council leadership. The South East zone also has the least number of heads of government Parastatals and other extra ministerial agencies as well as very few chair Federal Government Boards or Councils.

However ,these are the top 20 among the few appointees from the South East in the present administration.

1.Dr. Chris Nwabueze Ngige

He is arguably the leader of the pack among the Igbo in the current administration .The minister of Labour and Employment is serving his second term as a minister . He was elected Senator for Anambra Central Constituency in April 2011.He is from Anambra State.

2.Ogbonnaya Onu

He is also one of the most prominent Igbo’s in this administration .He was at several times touted for the post of SGF .The first civilian governor of Abia state is serving his second term as the Minister of Science and Technology, Federal Republic of Nigeria. He is from Ebonyi State.

3. Sharon Ikeazor

She is the former Executive Secretary of Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate. On August 2019, Sharon was appointed the Minister of State for Environment. She is from Anambra state

4.Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba

He is the current Minister of State for Education . He has previously served as the Chairman of TETFund Board of Trustees.He is from IMO state.

5. Geoffrey Jideofor Kwusike Onyeama

Onyeama was appointed Foreign Affairs Minister of Nigeria in November 2015 .He is serving his second term. He is from Enugu State

6.Uchechukwu S. Ogah

The Abia State born oil magnate is the current Nigerian Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development. Prior to his appointment ,he was the President of Master Energy Group, a conglomerate with over 15 subsidiaries .

7.Ben Akabueze,

The former Managing Director/Chief Executive of the defunct NAL Bank Plc served as Lagos State Commissioner for Economic Planning & Budget from January 2007 till May 2015, having first been appointed by Governor Tinubu and then re-appointed for two terms by Governor Fashola.

He was appointed Special Adviser (Planning) to the President of Nigeria effective February 15, 2016, and on June 9, 2016 President Buhari appointed him the Director-General Budget Office of the Federation.Anambra State. He is from Anambra State.

8.Kingsley Chiedu Moghalu

The professor of International Business and public policy was a 2019 Young Progressive Party (YPP) presidential candidate for the 2019 presidential elections .He is the current Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA).Nnewi, the famous commercial town in Anambra State, is his hometown. His late father Isaac Moghalu, a retired Permanent Secretary, was a Nigerian Foreign Service Officer in the 1960s.

9. Osita Okechukwu

He hails from Eke, in Udi Local Council, Enugu State. He is the Director General of the Voice of Nigeria.

10.Prof. Godswill Obioma

The Abia State born professor was appointed by the president of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari as the registrar of National Examination Council , NECO for a five years tenure On 22 May 2020.

11. Chioma Nnenna Ejikeme

Born to the family of the Late Chief Ukachi Ikemba, a one time Political Secretary to the Premier of the Defunct Eastern Nigeria, Dr. M I Okpara .The former Commissioner for Health Anambra State was a member of the Anambra State 2019 Presidential Campaign Team.

She is presently the Executive Secretary, Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate

12.Okechukwu Ukwuoma

He was appointed by Goodluck Jonathan in 2014 as the Director-General, National Centre for Technology Management and was granted a second and final term of four years with effect from 22nd July, 2018 by President Muhammadu Buhari. He is the from Obibi -Ochasi in Orlu Local Government, Imo State.

13.Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu

He is the Director General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and was until January 2018, the Acting Director of the Regional Centre for Disease Control for West Africa. He has been at the forefront of the Covid 19 pandemic management in Nigeria. Chikwe was born to a Nigerian doctor and the mother, a German professor.

14.Elias Nwalem Mbam

He is the Chairman of Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC).The former Finance Minister of State is from Ebonyi State.

15.Uchechi Orji

He joined NSIA as CEO in October 2012, from Switzerland’s largest bank, UBS Securities, where he was Managing Director in the New York branch of its Equities Division.

Prior to his UBS experience, Mr. Orji spent six years at JP Morgan in London, 2001-2006, rising to the position of Vice President .

In Oct 2017 ,President Muhammadu Buhari re-appointed Uchechi Orji as Managing Director, Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority .He is from Arochukwu in Abia State.

16.Chidi Izuwah

The Harvard, Wharton, Columbia University and Indian Institute of Management Alumni is the DG/CEO of Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission. He is from Abia state.

17.Dr. Nnaemeka Ewelukwa

Dr. Nnaemeka Ewelukwa was appointed by President Buhari as the substantive Managing Director/CEO of Nigeria Bulk Electricity Trading Company (NBET) recently .Prior to this appointment, he served as the acting Company Secretary of NBET, while concurrently working as a Technical Adviser with the Presidential Task Force on Power (PTFP) where he was a member of the Regulatory and Transactions Monitoring Unit.

18. Clement Onyeabo Nze

He is the Director-General, Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency. He was appointed for initial term of four years on 28th October, 2018

19.Nnenna Akajemeli

She is the National Coordinator and Chief Executive Officer, SERVICOM,

20.Mr. Chiedu Ugbo

Mr. Chiedu Ugbo is the Managing Director/ Chief Executive Officer of Niger Delta Power Holding Company.
